Tammy’s topic for July is on Summer Acne
Here’s part 4
A overall summary.
Summer acne refers to seasonal breakouts triggered by heat, humidity, and sun exposure. Warm weather increases sweat and oil (sebum) production, creating an ideal breeding ground for bacteria. Trapped debris and pore-clogging sunscreens exacerbate the issue, leading to frequent blemishes and inflammatory flare-ups.
Core Causes
- Excess Oil & Sweat: Rising temperatures cause sebaceous glands to overproduce sebum. When mixed with sweat and dead skin cells, pores become easily congested.
- Comedogenic Products: Heavy moisturizers and thick, pore-clogging sunscreens trap sweat and dirt against the skin, triggering blemishes.
- Acne Mechanica: Friction and trapped heat from hats, helmets, and tight workout clothes often cause body acne on the chest, back, and shoulders.
- Fungal Acne: The hot, damp environment is highly favorable to yeast growth on the skin. This manifests as small, uniform, itchy bumps.
